House Parties
House
parties have proven to be very effective grassroots fundraising and volunteer
recruiting activities for political campaigns in general. For us, they
are especially important because we rely on word-of-mouth, person-to-person,
contact to spread our message. House parties have the advantage of bringing
people together for a common cause, generating more energy and initiative
to support the campaign. Being part of a group of excited, dedicated people
is a great way to encourage people to make contributions that are affordable--and
at the same time, have some fun! Hosting a house party is also a way of
sharing your commitment with family and friends. A house party
is completely flexible, allowing the host to create an event with which
he or she is comfortable and adapting it appropriately to friends, local
communities and family.
How
Do I Get Started?
You've
thrown parties before, and this is no different--but there are a few unique
aspects you will want to plan for. To begin with, consider getting
some help with the hosting responsibilities. This will help you
put on a more successful event and also begins to build a base of people
who will be energized and more willing to get involved with the campaign.
Lots of people want to do something,
they just aren't sure how to get started and whether they can really make
a difference. So start planning right now--the earlier the better!
